WORKS OF THE BEADS

A joint design project with the Colombian indigenous tribe Embera Chami, Iliana Arrazola and Veronica Villegas. All the compositions are derived from the traditional works of the Embera for purposes of decoration of traditional garments that convey stories of the culture’s symbolic relationship with nature. We have modified the color swatch to match current fashion trends. This works are hand-made on looms by a family of 20 people that specialize in different parts of the manufacturing process of each item. We compensate the artisans to avoid exploitation and support the Embera family that has been displaced to urban areas from their original territories in the jungles of Colombia.
