OKAMA NECKLACE
Necklace with glass beads and Gold Plated 24k clasp.
The Emberá-Chamí are an indigenous people from Colombia. Chamí means “mountain range” and Emberá signifies “people”, they are “The People of the (mountain) Range”.
As part of their traditional attire, the Emberá manufacture hand crafted necklaces with small color glass beads, every piece tells a story and talks about the relationship with Nature and its Cosmology.
The piece most coveted by women is the Okama, or “the path that travels around the neck”, exclusively used by women, providing her with prestige and telling her history and role in the community.
Each necklace is an original piece, product of our collaboration with the Emberá, where we carefully select colors and shapes to be produced. All designs have singular variations that makes them unique.
